Despite the team’s recent successes, the Montreal Canadiens players are preventing themselves from getting too excited and want to keep a cool head.

There is still a long way to go before we can think about making the playoffs.

Still, stringing together victories against the powers of the National Hockey League as they have done in recent weeks is enough to boost the morale of the troops.

“It’s obviously pretty cool. This league has a lot of respect for the teams, and I believe that every night brings its share of challenges. How we’re playing right now, it’s a process, and it’s taken us a while to get here,” forward Cole Caufield said live from Utah ahead of Tuesday night’s game against club of the same name.

Little number 13 doesn’t have too many illusions. He knows that the road will be long before he can think about the spring tournament and that the team cannot afford to slow down.

“We still have a long way to go. I wouldn’t say it was an accident. [fluke]but I wouldn’t say it’s tangible either. I believe we need to continue to push in the right direction. I don’t think anyone is satisfied with the results, but it sure feels good,” added the man who has already scored 23 goals so far this season.

Close fight

The Canadian finds himself, before Monday evening’s matches, two points from the last place allowing access to the playoffs. He also has three games in hand on the Boston Bruins, who are in first place among drafted teams (wild card).

If he keeps up the pace, he’ll be in a tough fight for the rest of the season, as the Eastern Conference standings couldn’t be tighter.

“I think all the matches we have left to play are of great importance,” Caufield said.

“There are still 40 games left. We have no intention of slowing down, we want to take off,” Juraj Slafkovsky told the media.

The big Slovakian, however, knows that he must give more if he wants to help his team win more matches. He also remained on the ice for many minutes after his team’s training on Monday in order to take shots towards the net.

The 20-year-old has scored 23 points in 39 games so far, including just four goals.

“I continue to work on several aspects of my game. I have to find some sort of consistency to be the same type of player every night.”

However, it is always easier to concentrate on your game when the team is winning matches.

“It’s not fun to lose. Winning is the best thing in the world. Especially when you’re part of a good group of players. We are all good friends off the ice and spend a lot of time together. […] When we weren’t winning, it was harder to find my rhythm.”
