Montreal Canadiens goalie Samuel Montembeault received his new mask and the masterpiece contains a mountain of details and nods to the rich history of the organization.
Montembeault proudly presented his new piece of equipment to the media after his team’s training in Salt Lake City on Tuesday afternoon, describing it exhaustively by turning it from all sides. Watch in the video above.
This new mask is the work of artist Jordon Bourgeault, who also made Carey Price’s scary “Terminator” mask.
“What you can see is a robot that is being built to become a guard,” Montembeault explained, running his fingers over the small details of the piece of equipment. We can see the little machine that is bringing in the pieces.”
There we find images of the masks of Jacques Plante and Ken Dryden. The name Montembeault is also written in the same way as Patrick Roy signed it on his masks.
“Here, there is the team slogan which is written in the room,” mentioned Montembeault as he continued his demonstration. Then, the date of the team’s inauguration and the date of the last Stanley Cup.
“Back, my two dogs. There is a line in the middle, everyone has their own half of a face. And a big M for Montembeault, of course, but also because the first names of both my parents and my brother start with M.”
-We observe that the mask’s grid is painted, which is rather atypical.
“You don’t see that often,” admitted the goalkeeper. The straps are also painted. For my part, the grid is white, so that doesn’t change my vision.”
The main person concerned, very smiling and enthusiastic, seemed very satisfied with the final result.
“He really did a great job. job.»
