Excellent news for the development of French arbitration! Our tricolor referee, Alexia Cheyroux is flying to Quebec where she signed a short-term professional contract, to referee in the prestigious PWHL, the best women’s hockey competition in the world.

Alexia Cheyroux is a pioneer. She is the first European referee to sign a professional contract with the PWHL. This championship brings together six teams, spread across Canada and the United States, and the 159 best players representing 9 countries, including Chloé Aurard from Villard-de-Lans, who plays for the New York Sirens.

The French referee flew to Quebec where she will referee Tuesday in Ottawa, the match between the Toronto Scepters and the Ottawa Charge, then Friday in Montreal, for the Minnesota Frost – Montreal Victoire match. In addition to these two matches, she will also be on the whistle for two university matches between John Abbott College and Dawson College as well as the Montreal Carabins against Bishop University. Many French players decide to pursue their passion in Quebec in these university leagues, and will be whistled by Alexia Cheyroux during her visit. Finally, she will attend a Rocket game in the AHL and will have the opportunity to meet the referees of this confrontation.

This FFHG initiative will create opportunities for European referees to cross the Atlantic and work in North American leagues. We congratulate her on this journey and we wish her a good stay.
