It’s around 1 p.m. on this foggy and cold Saturday in January. At the Longpré-les-Corps-Saints stadium (), the A2LC veterans are warming up, while spectators gather at the entrance.

400 spectators in the small local stadium

There are 400 of them, braving the weather with enthusiasm for what promises to be a historic match for the local football club.

The A2LC is preparing to face the Variétés Club de , which brings together former glories of national and international football and personalities.

The rural atmosphere is reminiscent of the French Cup matches between David and Goliath. With no other challenge than to produce a beautiful game, and to have fun.

Hopes quickly dashed

Dominated from start to finish, from the first minutes, the “eleven” of the A2LC tried to contain the attacks of the Variétés Club de France, led by Jérémy Clément (ex-player of , PSG, Saint-Etienne, , Rangers) who splashes all his class on a field that will deteriorate over time.

From the eleventh minute, and after an insolent possession, the Variétés Club de France opened the scoring thanks to Wesley Ngo Baheng who played for Newcastle.

The tone is set and the bill risks being heavy, even if the sporting objective remains secondary.

The first half ended with a clear score of 6 to 0 even though the A2LC goalkeeper made decisive saves.

Despite constant investment, the locals must resolve to submit to a domination which, obviously, was planned.

The residents of the Variétés Club de France played the game until the end and delivered a 13 to 0 to the veterans of the A2LC.

A walk in the park in the second half

Despite rare incursions into the opposing camp, the locals would have deserved to save the honor since two clear chances were aborted thanks to Vincent Magniez, ex-keeper of and .

The step was much too high for the veterans of the A2LC who will remember the confrontation against the Variétés Club de France who played the game until the end thanks to the talent of Jean-Pierre Orts (, Lyon), Jean- Michel Guede (ex-Ivorian international), Price Jolibois (ex- player) but also Océane Daniel who brought happiness to the Girondins de and many other big names.
