England: Everton sack their coach Sean Dyche three hours before their Cup match

Everton announced that they had “relieved of his duties” the English coach Sean Dyche, who has been in post for two years with the Liverpool “Toffees”, currently engaged in a fight to remain in the Premier League.

Former coach of Watford and Burnley, Sean Dyche (53) took his place on the Everton bench in January 2023 to replace Frank Lampard. “The process of appointing a new manager is underway and information will be provided in due course,” said the blue jersey club.

The announcement was made three hours before Everton hosted third division side Peterborough United in the FA Cup. Interim coach Leighton Baines and first-team defender and captain Seamus Coleman are in charge of the role. Everton occupies sixteenth place in the Premier League, one point ahead of Ipswich, the current first relegation place, but with a game in hand. The “Toffees” have only won one of their last eleven matches.

The team has played in the first division since 1954 without interruption.

The American Friedkin Group, which became Everton’s owner in December, had begun sounding out possible successors even before sacking Dyche, according to press reports.

The English coach has kept the Liverpool team in the first division, where it has played without interruption since 1954, despite two difficult last seasons. Everton finished 15th last season in the Premier League, despite being stripped of points for breaching financial rules.

The current season is accompanied by disappointing results for a team lacking goals and spectacle. She has only scored 15 times in 19 league matches, the second worst total behind bottom side Southampton (12 in 20 matches). Everton did not have a single shot on target during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth and had just two on target in the previous match, losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest.
