Barça’s Spanish internationals threatened to boycott the selection

Catalan television 3 reports that the Spanish internationals playing for Barça would have threatened to no longer go to the selection if the registration of Dani Olmo was not resolved. FC Barcelona finally obtained a precautionary measure from the Superior Sports Council allowing it to temporarily register its attacking midfielder.

A great proof of solidarity. While Dani Olmo’s future within FC Barcelona was unclear due to his non-registration with La Liga, ultimately accepted via a court resolution, the attacking midfielder was able to count on the unwavering support of his teammates. Catalan television TV3 even reports that the Spanish internationals playing for Barça would have threatened to no longer go to the selection if Dani Olmo was not registered.

This was explained by the deputy director of Diario As, Joaquín Maroto, in the show Onze on Esport3. Among the names cited by this newspaper are Gavi, Pedri, Cubarsí, Marc Casadó, Lamine Yamal and Fermín López. According to him, they had the intention of not showing up for the call-ups by simulating physical problems or discomfort, so as not to be sanctioned by coach Luis de la Fuente.

Dani Olmo could no longer play with the Spanish selection

Dani Olmo could not be called up to the Spanish team because, although the FIFA regulations do not stipulate that to be called up it is obligatory to be registered in a team, it requires that one be federated in the confederation concerned, which was not the case due to the common position adopted by the Spanish federation and La Liga.

A threat that the players will not have to carry out since FC Barcelona was authorized on Wednesday to replay its playmaker Dani Olmo and the young Pau Victor thanks to a favorable decision from the Spanish Higher Sports Council. This provisional measure “suspends the cancellation of the sports licenses of the aforementioned players” and also maintains their validity until the outcome of the dispute, writes the body dependent on the Ministry of Education and Sports in a press release.
