Anderlecht resumes with a trip to Beerschot in the Belgian Cup. A first match which does not promise to be easy.
David Hubert was undoubtedly hoping for a slightly more peaceful preparation to start 2025. Anderlecht will play its first match of the year at Beerschot, on a pitch that is already terribly damaged and made even more capricious by the weather in the last few hours.
But it is above all in his team, and more particularly in his defense, that the Sporting coach draws his main sources of concern. This was also the major theme of his press conference.
Starting with the unavailability of Moussa N’Diaye and Jan Vertonghen : “Moussa felt a little discomfort. We will have to see how his condition is. Concerning Jan’s injury, it is sure that it was unwelcome, plus he was coming back well. It had an impact on the whole group. But that’s still Jan, he’s already thinking about when he’ll come back. For now, he’s down but he’s going to do everything to come back strong.”
Who will be alongside Simic?
In his comments, relayed by RTBF, the Anderlecht coach also confirmed the sidelining of Loopleaving for Los Angeles: “He is indeed on the start and cannot be selected. There are other players to put in place and it is up to us to find solutions.”
Hubert has few solutions in the rearguard. Will he align Leander Dendoncker again in the central axis? “Sometimes we have to look for solutions that are out of the ordinary but that’s what we’re here for. That’s our job. The most important thing would be that we have three solutions per position, but that’s not the case. So, it you have to think “out of the box.” The most important thing is that Anderlecht wins. Enough to set the tone for a start to the year focused on DIY while waiting for reinforcements.
