Lopetegui, six months and then gone?

As announced this Wednesday by The Athletic, West Ham United postpone Julen Lopetegui press conference. The Spanish technician will still take charge of today’s training, scheduled for the morning, in view of the FA Cup match against Aston Villa this Friday. The former Spain coach is on the hot seat for several days now, and he might not finish the week in the event of a poor performance in the cup.

A more than complicated first part of the season

Despite an ambitious summer transfer window with the arrivals of Summerville, Kilman, Todibo, Füllkrug, Wan-Bissaka, Carlos Soler or young hopeful Luis Guilherme for a total of almost 150 million spentthe Londoners are having a more than disappointing season. THE Hammers are currently 14e Premier League after 20 days, just seven points from the relegation zone. Already nine defeats in the league and as many goals conceded in the last two matches – against Liverpool and Manchester City of course – have pushed their supporters to sing “You will be fired in the morning” for the Spaniard during the defeat against the Skybluesas they did against Leicester at the beginning of December. Elimination against Aston Villa on Friday would seal any hopes of a salvaged season and quite possibly Lopetegui’s future in east London.

England do not seem to be succeeding in Lopetegui, who left Wolverhampton six days before the start of the season in 2023 over differences with management.
