When Logan Mailloux disappointed somewhat at the Montreal Canadiens’ training camp at the start of the season, everyone said that it wasn’t the end of the world, and that seeing him dominate in the American League would be beneficial .

By returning to , Mailloux would have the chance to dominate with the Rocket and potentially benefit from a few call-ups with the CH.

The season started really well for Mailloux, and as expected, he was on track to be the Rocket’s best defenseman for the entire season.

But here we are now a few months later, and it is not Mailloux who is at the top of the scorers among the Laval Rocket defenders.

Rather, it’s a certain Adam Engstrom.

Indeed, the Swedish defender is in first place among Rocket defenders with his 17 points in 31 games.

It’s a nice surprise to see Engstrom at the top of the Rocket’s defensemen, as it shows he’s developing very well for a 21-year-old rookie defenseman.

Moreover, if we look across the entire American League, Engstrom ranks 3rd in points among rookie defensemen.

In short, Engstrom is having a great rookie season in the AHL, and he is building a nice resume for the next CH training camp, where he will clearly be looking to make his place in the NHL.

The Swedish defender seems to have adapted well to North American ice, and he is likely to continue to improve between now and the end of the season.

Seeing him in the front row of Rocket defenders is a nice surprise, but it also speaks to the disappointment that Logan Mailloux is currently.

He has only three points in his last 19 games, while nothing is going well offensively for the man who was supposed to dictate the Rocket’s attack.

Things were going so well for Mailloux at the start of the season, but now he’s no longer even leading his own team’s defenders.

Let’s hope that he will be able to find his place again, otherwise, by then, Engstrom could have completely overtaken Mailloux in the hierarchy of young CH defenders.
