Michael Pezzetta is in a funny situation in Montreal. As we arrive in January and CH has played 37 matches, the good Pezz has only played three… and everything indicates that this is not about to change.
The regular 12 are doing well at the moment. No one is really “tastable”… and the CH is lucky that it happens at this time. Let me explain.
In the event that an attacker were seriously injured at the Canadiens at the moment, we can think that the club would probably look to Laval. The problem is that right now the options aren’t particularly good.
Alex Barré-Boulet, who started the year in Montreal, would be the logical name. That said, he only has two points in his last seven games… and he only has one goal since the start of December.
He’s not exactly forcing the leadership’s hand for a recall right now.

We could also think of Brandon Gignac, but the latter is on the sidelines…

Luke Tuch and Florian Xhekaj are good physical players, but Pezzetta can take on that role…
Filip Mesar has no points in four games since his return from injury, who has only one goal in nine games this season (and who must be happy to see Emil Heineman do better pass la transaction Tyler Toffoli)…
Rafaël Harvey-Pinard has only six points in 15 games in Laval this season…
Do you see where I’m going with this? There isn’t really a reminder that makes sense for the Canadian on offense at the moment. All these guys have something that means they don’t force the club’s hand.
It’s fortunate that at the moment, the 12 regulars on the attacking team are all playing big hockey. Because right now, the alternatives are Pezzetta… or a bunch of players in Laval who, for various reasons, would not be ideal recalls.
Things have time to change, but right now, CH really needs its 12 attackers to hold down the fort… and the good news is that right now, they’re doing it brilliantly at the best possible time .
