Racing Genk was able to celebrate the New Year as championship leader. Will the Limburgers be able to win the title at the end of the season?
With Club Brugge as the main competitor, Genk will certainly not claim the role of championship favorite, although the Limburgers will of course do everything possible, hoping to bring the fight for the title to a successful conclusion. Racing Genk has also developed a program to prepare as best as possible for the second part of the season.
“The brief but intense preparation for the second half of the season begins on Thursday January 2,” Genk said in a statement. “The core players are expected at the club that morning for a private training session. Later in the day, the team will depart for peaceful Algorfa in Spain.” Many teams do not go to training due to the short time between the short winter break and the next official match. Genk is therefore organizing a mini-internship.
The choice of Genk is not a coincidence
The choice of the Spanish town of Algorfa was not made at random. “Algorfa, located in the province of Alicante, is an ideal location for a winter internship. Just 20 kilometers from the coastal town of Torrevieja and 50 kilometers from Murcia, our boys will be able to prepare in state-of-the-art facilities for the second part of the season.”
Besides the facilities, the weather conditions were also taken into account. “Expected temperatures are around 20 degrees, a stark contrast to the freezing cold in Limburg these days.” Genk will therefore train twice a day in Spain, with also a training session planned there on January 6, the day before the clash against Sint-Truiden in the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup.
Fink focuses on strengthening team spirit
“The internship in Algorfa is crucial to be physically and mentally ready for what is to come. We happily exchange the bad weather in Belgium for a few sunny days in Spain. In addition, I also take advantage of the internship to strengthen the spirit of “team”, explains coach Thorsten Fink in the same press release.
