Beerschot will spend the New Year in the position of bottom of the championship. Dirk Kuyt is hoping for reinforcements in January, and is counting on owner United World, who only owns one European club.
During his press conference after the defeat in Leuven, Dirk Kuyt indicated that Beerschot’s core was not wide enough. “I mainly look at the current team, but with Benjamin Ehresmann, the sporting director, we are in constant contact to improve things. Ideally, reinforcements will be added to each line, in January, due to the lack of depth of our core and various injuries I hope for reinforcement quickly.
From now on, Beerschot is the only European club owned by United World, following the sale of Sheffield United. A situation that can offer additional financial resources. “I have already discussed it with them. I hope there will be a positive development, although it is obvious that not all of United World’s money will go to Beerschot.”
More financial resources for Beerschot?
Despite the situation around Sheffield United, Dirk Kuyt stressed that the promoted side has had a concrete plan for his future for some time. “This plan is independent of Sheffield. But we can take advantage of this situation to achieve it.”
The winter transfer window will be crucial for Beerschot, which must quickly climb the rankings to avoid relegation. Kuyt hopes to strengthen his team with targeted purchases in order to have a better second half of the season.
If the club must act quickly to leave its seat at the bottom, Kuyt remains optimistic. “We will fight to get Beerschot back on track, we will work very hard on that,” concluded the former Dutch striker.
