The Mayor of Kolda, Mameboye Diao, once again insisted on the crucial importance of providing his municipality with a land base at the ZAC level to realize the ambitious project of the “New Town of Kolda”. This request was reiterated during the accountability day held on December 23 at city hall, an event organized in partnership with the Civil Forum.
During this face to face meeting with his constituents, the city's first magistrate presented the broad outlines of this project which, according to him, constitutes a unique opportunity to transform the city of Kolda and sustainably improve the quality of life of its inhabitants. According to him, this project provides for the creation of modern infrastructure adapted to the needs of the population. Among these are:
- A processing unit for local products to stimulate the local economy;
- A municipal stadium that meets standards to promote sporting and cultural activities;
- An aquaculture unit to enhance the region’s fishing potential;
- A large aircraft station to streamline transport and commerce;
- Social housing to meet the growing demand for accessible housing.
Mameboye Diao took this opportunity to launch an urgent appeal to his constituents. He invites the populations to take ownership of it and to mobilize behind the municipal institution so that this project can see the light of day under his leadership.
The accountability day, a moment of exchange and transparency, allowed citizens to ask questions and discuss municipal priorities. The mayor took advantage of this space to reaffirm his commitment to working for the inclusive and sustainable development of Kolda.
However, the completion of this project remains conditional on obtaining the necessary land in the ZAC. Mameboye Diao's advocacy reflects a determination to mobilize all stakeholders, from local authorities to citizens, including technical and financial partners.
With “The New Town of Kolda”, the municipality aspires to make this town a model of modernity and dynamism in the South of Senegal. It remains to be hoped that this call will find a favorable response to initiate this expected transformation.
