In the third period of a 3-1 win, the player known for his robust play firmly tackled Heiskanen along the boards, which earned him an expulsion from the game. The Bettman Circuit then summoned him for an in-person hearing to discuss the footage. Missing Sunday's matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, Rempe will be eligible to return on January 9.
This season, he was shut out in five games with the Rangers, totaling 24 penalty minutes. He also played 18 games with the Hartford farm club in the American League. Little used by his head coach Peter Laviolette, the 6'8″ skater was also noticed for questionable reasons in his previous outing, on November 25, when he needlessly hit Jake Neighbors of the St. Louis.
Matt Rempe is already acting up again with an unnecessary penalty –
Since his debut in the Bettman circuit, number 73, expelled four times from a match, is seen as a repeat offender by the league. This suspension is the longest since that imposed on Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals who was punished for 20 duels in October 2018. In addition, the offending athlete will have to forfeit $80,000 in salary.
