Like the 2024 vintage, the 2025 draft promises to be very interesting.
I say that, because the CH will probably have an excellent choice (besides, its schedule promises to be very difficult when it returns from the holidays), but the hopefuls who will be selected are of very good quality.
Well, there is no Connor Bedard or Macklin Celebrini like in the last two years, but there are still stars in the making. Among these stars, there are Matthew Schaefer, James Hagens, Michael Misa and… Caleb Desnoyers. According to Simon Boisvert, the Quebecer has been Quebec's best hope for a long time and he is currently in his top-5.
This is saying something since as we know, the Snake does not like to position players before its final ranking is completed.
Remember that Alexis Lafrenière was drafted first overall in 2020.

At BPM Sports this morning, Boisvert had no shortage of words to describe Desnoyers, who continues to climb the ranks in mock drafts.
He describes him as a snarling striker, who has good vision and a good shot. He also rushes to the net, makes very good passes, in short, he is a hockey machine. He was passed over for the Junior Team Canada, but is expected to play plenty of hockey this season, while the Moncton Wildcats, his QMJHL team, are in danger of making it all the way to the Memorial Cup.
And for those who follow Simon Boisvert, this tournament is one of his favorites for evaluating prospects. After all, it is a championship that ends in June and is very competitive.
In 26 games with Moncton, number 18 has 42 points, including 17 goals. He is a fairly complete player who would fit well in Montreal. Would he, as a Quebecer, collapse under the pressure from Montreal? We don't hope.
One thing is certain, he has the talent to become a star player.
If the logic of the lottery is respected, Montreal would currently have the sixth pick in the next draft. Desnoyers could very well be available at this rank. And as I mentioned, Montreal has a very difficult schedule coming back from the holidays.
It will soon be time to consolidate this top-5 choice for a fourth consecutive season.
