Charlie Lindgren makes one of the saves of the year

We were treated to seven games last night in the National Hockey League, while 14 teams were in action this Friday evening.

Besides the Montreal Canadiens' 4-3 victory, there were other interesting highlights.

So here is a report.

1. Charlie Lindgren makes a simply sensational save

The biggest surprise in the NHL this season undoubtedly comes from the Washington Capitals.

Indeed, no one saw them being so dominant, and especially not finding themselves at the top of the Eastern Conference and the NHL as a whole.

Especially with the loss of Alexander Ovechkin for several weeks.

In short, the Caps are a power in the NHL and once again last night, they showed it by winning 3 to 1 against a division rival, the Carolina Hurricanes.

What caught the attention in this match was really the performance of Charlie Lindgren, who was very solid, especially when he made this save, which will most likely be a candidate for save of the year.

Lindgren stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced, and allowed the Caps to take a five-point lead over the Hurricanes in the metropolitan standings.

2. Rangers return to winning ways

If you follow the New York Rangers news at all, well, you quickly understood that it's a real mess at the moment.

Indeed, nothing seems to be going well with the team for a few weeks now.

The team is losing too much and there are several internal problems.

The Rangers are not even in the playoffs anymore, while the CH is only four points behind New York.

In short, things are going bad, and so yesterday's 3-1 victory against the Dallas Stars must be good, even if it wasn't perfect.

The Rangers will look to build on this in order to get back on track for the playoffs as quickly as possible.

Note that upon his return to the lineup, Matt Rempe was excluded from the match for his hit against Miro Heiskanen.

3. 12th straight loss for the Buffalo Sabers

After being demolished by the Canadiens at the Bell Center on Tuesday by a score of 6 to 1, the Sabers were back at home, as they hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Sabers were looking to end their endless losing streak, but in the end, they obtained a 12th straight defeat in addition to allowing six goals again to the opponent.

The big guns of the Maple Leafs had fun against the second worst team in the NHL currently.

In short, everything is going wrong for the Sabers once again this season.

They are truly the laughing stock of the NHL.

4. The Utah Hockey Club is on fire

After having an up-and-down start to the season, Utah is currently on an excellent streak with a 6-0-1 record in its last seven games.

André Tourigny's squad scored a fourth victory in a row last night by winning 2 to 1 against one of the best teams in the NHL, the Minnesota Wild.

Utah managed to get two very big points despite its meager 18 shots, and this is largely thanks to the two goals of Dylan Guenther, who now has 32 points, including 16 goals, in 32 games.

Utah now finds itself with 37 points, which places the team just one point behind the Vancouver Canucks and the Dallas Stars and the last place giving access to the playoffs.

It would truly be a great accomplishment for Utah to make the playoffs in its first NHL season.

5. MacKinnon regains a cushion at the top of the top scorers

The race for the top scorers is very tight this season, with several players following each other very closely.

Nathan MacKinnon has been leading the way for a while now, and last night, with three points in a 4-2 Colorado Avalanche win over the Anaheim Ducks, he regained some cushion at the top by hitting the plateau of 55 points.

Leon Draisaitl (50), Mikko Rantanen (50), Kirill Kaprizov (49) and Nikita Kucherov (49) follow MacKinnon closely despite everything.
