Chelsea are looking to Dortmund to find a new number one goalkeeper.
Chelsea has been looking for a new goalie for some time. Robert Sanchez fought against competition from Dorde Petrovic last season to establish himself as first goalkeeper of Cthe healththe latter having been loaned for a season to Strasbourg.
While Chelsea agree €20m deal with Filip Jorgensenthe Villarreal stopper, Sanchez kept his place between the poles. However, Sanchez made a number of costly mistakes throughout his time at Stamford Bridge and there is growing speculation that the western giants of London actively seek to improve error-prone Spanish.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, Dortmund will struggle to keep Kobel next summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League – and Chelsea have expressed interest in the Swiss international.
The 27-year-old best Swiss goalkeeper is under contract with the Borussia Dortmund until 2028. However, under certain conditions, a transfer during next summer cannot be ruled out, because Kobel himself wants to compete for titles regularly. Just a year ago, Kobel signed a contract extension with Dortmund until 2028.
But Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, 27 points from the champion, Bayer Leverkusen, and it seems that Kobel is increasingly frustrated by the club's lack of money.
BILD claims Chelsea would be ready to pay a sum of between 70 and 80 million euros to lure the 27-year-old Swiss away from Germany. Kobel has made 136 appearances in all competitions since joining Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2021, whilst being named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season twice.
