Sergio Perez’s next chapter in motorsport could arrive very quickly according to several consistent sources in Mexico and Italy.
With the Mexican driver and Red Bull having agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect, Perez would pocket between 20 and 27 million euros, which would reportedly represent the full cost of his contract for 2025 and 2026.
His father, Antonio Perez Garibay, says Perez is definitely closing the door to F1 if the idea is to make the numbers.
“I’m sure the door to Formula 1 is not closed for Checo if something very good and very big comes along. I don’t think Checo will go to a team like Sauber or Haas. Either Checo will sign a contract with a big team, or the door will be closed. No Indycar, no Nascar I’m 100% sure of that.
“That’s why I tell you that if there is no great team, then Checo will have already made his last race. Everything in life has a beginning and an end, and you have to learn to live with that. “
“Right now, what Checo has to do is focus on his family, because it’s many years, many sacrifices, and it had to end one day and that day is today.”
Sources close to Perez, however, revealed that the Mexican, who already felt the wind turning, had been negotiating for several weeks with a high-level world endurance championship team, Ferrari, in Hypercar (the premier category).
Perez’s plan is to select key WEC races, including Le Mans. He would be finalizing an agreement with Ferrari and thus returning to his origins, since he was part of the Ferrari academy before arriving in F1 with Sauber.
