Ronaldo wants to come to the aid of Brazilian Football. “My goal is to bring the people closer to the Seleçao [l’équipe nationale de football]. Today, the people are indifferent when the Seleçao plays”declared the former international announcing, Monday December 16 in an interview with the Brazilian site Globoesporte, that he was running for president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
“I have hundreds of motivations, but I believe the greatest of them is to ensure that Brazilian football is respected again at the international level”added the former center forward, who, with eight goals, was the top scorer at the 2002 World Cup, won by Brazil. Twenty-two years later, the Brazilians are still chasing a sixth world title.

“The Seleçao must recover its prestige. I will do everything so that the players understand the historical importance of playing for the national team”promised Ronaldo, who wore the selection jersey 97 times.
A contested president
“I am an alternative of important change for Brazilian football, which is experiencing a deep crisis,” argues the one whose nickname when he played was The Phenomenon. The current president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, was widely criticized for having resorted to interim coaches after the departure of Tite in 2022, pending the possible arrival of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who finally decided to extend his contract with Real Madrid.
Now under the leadership of Dorival Junior, the Seleçao is only fifth in the South American group for qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, seven points behind the Argentinian leader.
The former star of FC Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, majority shareholder and manager of the Spanish club Valladolid, has specified that he intends to sell his shares to avoid “any obstacle to his candidacy” as president of the CBF. The date of the election has not yet been set.
