PRoughly forty years after Albertville 1992 and only six after the Paris 2024 Games which amazed the world, France will once again organize the Olympic Games (OG). It will be winter 2030 in the Alps, and the images promise to be beautiful in some of the most beautiful massifs in the region. But we forget that these Games of the XXVIe winter edition suffer from several ills which taint these postcard visions.
First flaw: the project was poorly born. Hastily put together in the summer of 2023, the application file did not receive the opinion of the French. The 2030 Games were officially awarded to the French Alps on July 24 – the other contenders had been ruled out at the end of November 2023 – by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) thanks to the sole support of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the French sports movement and of the regions concerned – Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
