With the arrival of four new players in the Océanic roster, acquired during the first day of the QMJHL holiday trading period, general manager Danny Dupont confirms the departures of Quinn Kennedy, Lyam Jacques, Vincent Murray and Michael Arsenault.
The first was traded to the Halifax Mooseheads, in addition to the second round pick in 2026 received in the swap involving Jonathan Fauchon with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, in order to acquire 19-year-old defenseman Jack Martin and 18-year-old forward, Lou Lévesque.
Originally from Upper Tantallon, 30 kilometers from Halifax, Kennedy could only have moved to the Mooseheads next summer. According to our information, Dupont has agreed to ship him immediately to Nova Scotia to satisfy his immediate desire to be closer to his family.
Selected in the first round of the Océanic in 2022, Quinn Kennedy has played 138 career games in Rimouski, seasons and playoffs included, amassing 68 points (34-34). He had his best campaign so far at age 17, in 2023-2024, with 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points.
Another return home
After officially leaving the team last week, Jacques is also returning home.
A native of Drummondville, the 19-year-old forward will line up with the Voltigeurs after being traded for a 7th round pick in 2025.
Jacques had previously missed two games in the Maritimes in November to reflect on his future.
A fifth-round pick in 2021, the left winger has been limited to just four points (1-3) in 22 games this season.
For their part, Murray and Arsenault will be subject to waivers.
If no team wishes to acquire them by January 10, they will remain on the Océanic’s protection list.
They could possibly try to carve out a position if they wish, next year, with Rimouski.
