Former coach of the Algerian national team, Mahieddine Khalef, has died at the age of 80, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on its official website.

In a press release, the FAF presented its condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as to all of Algerian football. “Faced with this immense loss, the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, sends, on his behalf and on behalf of the members of his federal office, his most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and to the entire football community Algerian. He prays to God the Almighty to grant him His mercy and welcome him into His vast paradise,” the message reads.

Mahieddine Khalef will be remembered as a legend of Algerian football. Closely associated with the Jeunesse sportive de Kabylie (JSK), he contributed to numerous successes of the club. He also made history as a member of Rachid Makhloufi’s staff, during Algeria’s historic participation in the 1982 World Cup. In 1984, he led the “Fennecs” during the African Cup of Nations.
