NHL: Cam Fowler heads to St. Louis (hockey)

The Anaheim Ducks traded defenseman Cam Fowler to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday morning for defenseman Jérémie Biakabutuka and a 2027 second-round pick.

The Blues also got their hands on a fourth-round player in 2027 in the transaction. The Ducks will also retain $2.5 million of Fowler’s $6.5 million contract which ends in 2026.

“This is a difficult trade considering what Cam means to the organization,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. “He was a valuable and respected member of our team for 15 seasons, representing the Ducks with the highest class. »

A first-round pick in 2010, 12th overall, Fowler had been at the center of rumors for several months already. These rumors have intensified in recent days, after the Ducks acquired Jacob Trouba from the New York Rangers.

“After several meetings over the past few months, it was clear to both of us that it was time for a change. As usual, Cam was able to juggle the situation professionally and remained focused on the Ducks’ mission. Cam and his family deserve the best for the future,” continued Verbeek.

Fowler is the most productive defenseman in Ducks history with 457 points. He is also the leader among defensemen in the 2010 draft. Fowler was also very close to reaching an important plateau, that of 1000 games with Anaheim, but his stay will end at 991. Only 82 players have played 1000 games with the same formation in the history of the NHL.

The 6’2” guard has only four points in 17 games this season.

For his part, Longueuillois Biakabutuka played in the ECHL this season, with the Florida Everblades. He has played five games in the American League in recent years, including one this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The six-foot-four defenseman has played 13 games in the ECHL since the start of the calendar, collecting one goal and three assists along the way.
