Earlier this morning, I talked to you about the fact that things were moving in the last few weeks in the National Hockey League in terms of transactions.

We’re a quarter of the way through the season, and the holiday transaction freeze period is fast approaching.

Teams are therefore rushing to make transactions before the end of the year.

We have just learned that Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler has just been traded to the St. Louis Blues.

Fowler and a fourth-round pick are headed to St. Louis in exchange for a second-round pick and a minor league prospect.

Note that the Ducks retain 38.5% of Fowler’s salary, which is $6.5 million, for yet another season after the current 2024-2025 season.

The Ducks are therefore freeing themselves from a big salary and a 33-year-old defender who was currently taking the place of a young player.

Anaheim has several solid young defensemen like Pavel Mintyukov, Olen Zellweger and Tristan Luneau, and so it was taking up more space, especially with the arrival of Jacob Trouba recently.

It was therefore Fowler who was sacrificed and who joined the Blues.

Fowler therefore jumps in the standings by six points to find himself on a team that is struggling, but which can still somewhat aspire to the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how and where Fowler fits into the Blues’ defensive brigade, which already has eight defensemen in the NHL.

Quebecer Pierre-Olivier Joseph could very well suffer from the arrival of such a veteran among the Blues.
