France team coach Didier Deschamps reacted to the draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Blues are fixed… half. This Friday took place the draw for qualifications for the 2026 World Cup. However, the French team does not yet know with certainty the identity of its future opponents. This will depend on its result of the double confrontation against Croatia, next March, for the quarter-finals of the League of Nations.
If Didier Deschamps' Blues qualify at the expense of Croatia, they will be placed in a four-way group with Ukraine, Iceland and Azerbaijan. In the event of elimination, the Tricolores will be placed in a group of five with the Czech Republic, Montenegro, the Faroe Islands and Gibraltar.
“We know a little more but we don’t know everything yet”
Not much further along, Didier Deschamps regretted the lack of visibility of this draw. “We have seven potential adversaries with different profiles, confided the coach in comments relayed by The Team. We know a little more but we don't know everything yet. It's complicated for many people to understand the draw. There is less visibility compared to what was there before but the key word is to adapt. »
“We are not going to play the quarter-final of the Nations League to be either in the group of five or in the group of fourhe added. This will have an impact but what is more problematic is the supervision of these teams since it will take a lot of people to see our potential opponents. But it is the particularity of this draw which is not completely decisive. »
