On Canal +, the Real Madrid player assured that he did not feel concerned by the rape accusations, and said that he was not the subject of any summons. The prosecutor refuses to say if there is a suspect and if he has been warned.
During his interview with host Mouloud Achour on Canal +, broadcast on Sunday December 8, French football player Kylian Mbappé spoke about the rape accusations he has been facing in Sweden since October 14 . After a three-day stay in Stockholm, the attacker was named in the Swedish press as “reasonably suspicious” in a rape case which allegedly occurred in the hotel where he was staying.
On Canal +, Kylian Mbappé affirmed that to date, he has not “nothing received” on the part of the Swedish judicial authorities, “no summons, nothing”. And declared that he would go “naturally” answer questions from the Swedish justice system if it summons him. The player also assured that he does not feel “not concerned” by these accusations and that he did not “no idea” who the complainant is. To date, the identity of the woman who filed a complaint against the player has not been revealed by the press or by the Swedish courts.
This is the line defended from the start by the Mbappé camp. On October 16, on TF1, his lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard said: “We are talking about a complaint, a filing of a complaint, but at this time we do not know against whom. I don’t even know if the complaint targets him”. She then announced that her client was going to file a complaint for slanderous denunciation.
No comment from Swedish justice
Asked by CheckNews on the footballer's statements, the prosecutor Marina Chirakova, in charge of the case, replied to us: “Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the investigation. I also can’t say if there is a suspect and if he has been warned.” When asked, Me Canu-Bernard indicates that in Sweden, “They respect the secrecy of the investigation. I still don’t know if it’s aimed at him, and we still don’t know who the complainant is.”.
As for the Swedish press, the newspaper The evening paper provided an update on the progress of the case in an article published on November 29. Without commenting on the progress of the investigation, prosecutor Marina Chirakova only stated that “the investigation is not closed”. The prosecutor also responded that she cannot say whether anyone was informed of the suspicions against him, reports The evening paper.
“Several women were also questioned”
According to information obtained by the newspaper, the complainant denounced Kylian Mbappé when she went to the hospital for treatment. The evening paper notes that the complaint indicates that the alleged rape took place in Kylian Mbappé's hotel room in Stockholm, while ensuring that “nothing new has been added to the district court documents since October 14.”
According to its sources, The evening paper states that “since the beginning of the investigation […] the National Center for Forensic Medicine was involved. This means that physical evidence has been analyzed” and that “several women were also questioned.”
Other media, such as Express itthe Today's News or the Swedish public broadcaster SVT, have published little information concerning the progress of the investigation. Their articles since October 14 concern more the progress of the player's evening in Stockholm and the reactions of Real Madrid or the French team to the accusations.
When contacted, the plaintiff's lawyer, Me Petra Eklund, did not respond to us.
