Yari Verschaeren has had a difficult season so far. The young midfielder, once one of Anderlecht’s biggest promises, has yet to live up to expectations.
The stats show he’s received less playing time this season and his production – both in terms of goals and assists – is lagging. The 22-year-old has often been on the bench in recent weeks, sparking questions over his future at the club.
However, during the victory against Beerschot (2-1), Verschaeren once again appeared in the spotlight. He scored a crucial goal and showed his class at a key moment in the game. “I went through a difficult period, so I’m very happy with this goal,” he reacted at the final whistle.
Despite his situation at Anderlecht, Verschaeren tries to stay positive. “I don’t think too much about what other people say or about a possible loan in January. I try to take every opportunity that is given to me.”
David Hubert does not want Yari Verschaeren to leave on loan
Coach David Hubert, who was also asked about the Verschaeren case during the press conference, spoke highly of it. “His entry into the game was almost perfect,” Hubert said. “I’ve read a lot of things about Yari, but internally, no one doubts his qualities. I really believe in him. He has the right mentality – we saw it again tonight (editor’s note: against Beerschot) – but he plays in a position where there is strong competition. It’s a luxury for me.”
Asked about the possibility of leaving in January, Hubert was clear. “For me, no. We have a busy schedule and we are dealing with seven injuries, which confirms my position. We need everyone, including Yari.”
