The discussions of the EC, which met from December 3 to 5, focused on the activities of the Olympic Movement, the commissions and the IOC administration. The EC also heard the final report of 2024 and the reports of the organizing committees for the next editions of the Olympic Games. An update was also made on the e-sport Olympic Games and the Olympic Agenda for AI.

The IOC Ethics Commission has published the Regulations for the presentation of candidates as well as the Voting Regulations for the election of the future president of the IOC as approved by the EC. The two documents include, for the first, the modalities for presenting candidates to the members of the IOC on January 30, 2025 and, for the second, the provisions which will apply to the vote during the 144th Session in Greece. According to an independent study on Olympic Games Paris 2024presented to the IOC EC, these Games were followed by 84% of the potential global audience, a record. That’s about five billion people 78% of those surveyed said they thought the Olympics were more important than ever in a divided world. Three out of four people also believe that the IOC has succeeded in “bringing the world together in peaceful competition” and “building a better world through sport”. In total, the experience of spectators surveyed was judged “excellent” or “good” by 85% of them for ticketed events, 95% for free events. The report revealing these figures was presented to the EC. The IOC Coordination Commission for Olympic Games Paris 2024 chaired by Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, submitted its final report to the EC. Present at the meeting were Tony Estanguet and Étienne Thobois, respectively president and general director of the Paris 2024 organizing committee. Their presentation focused on the successes and challenges of the Games, their impact, the next steps in the dissolution of the organizing committee. organization as well as the legacy left to the Olympic Movement and the host country. As we soon enter the final year before Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026, the organizing committee team presented the progress made during the year 2024, in several areas of the organization, particularly with regard to the sites. She also summarized the major developments recorded recently in the field of stakeholder mobilization, highlighting the support provided by the Italian government and regional public authorities, a determining element for the success of the Games, as demonstrated in Paris 2024. The organizing committee of LA28 Olympic Games presented the work accomplished over the past 12 months in areas such as the development of the venues master plan, continued commercial success, the gradual expansion of the organizing team and growing engagement with local communities . The EC was informed of the progress made towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. Brisbane 2032 Coordination Commission Chair Kirsty Coventry said under the leadership of President Andrew Liveris and Chief Executive Officer Cindy Hook, the Organizing Committee team continues to make steady and positive progress as the planning process is gaining momentum, more than seven years before the opening of the Games. Following the presentation of a report by the president of the coordination commission of Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026Kirsty Coventry, the EC confirmed the events and athlete quotas. For the first time in the history of the Summer YOG, there will be complete gender equality, not only in the overall quota of athletes, but also across all sports, disciplines and events. The Dolomiti Valtellina project in northern Italy has been recommended by the EC to accommodate 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games. This proposal will be submitted for approval to the IOC members meeting at their 143rd Session which will be held in Lausanne on January 30, 2025. Based on the recommendations of the commission for the election of IOC members, The EC has adopted a number of proposals which will be presented at the 144th Session in March 2025. Full details here.

Following the recommendation of the Evaluation Commission for the IOC Session chaired by Ser Miang Ng, the city of Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) was proposed by the EC as the host city of the IOC Session in 2027. This decision will be submitted to a vote by the IOC members meeting on the occasion of their 144th Session. More info here
