Formula 1 | Alonso: 9th place is a ‘good example’ of Aston Martin ’s tenacity

Fernando Alonso is happy to have ended his season with a series of two races in the points, after a drought of six consecutive events. The Aston Martin driver finished ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and he salutes his team for the work done throughout the weekend, and more generally in the season.

“It’s important to finish on a high note with points in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. It’s deserved because the team here never stopped working to get the most out of the car. It was enjoyable in this race, there was action and I’m ready to move on to 2025 starting from scratch on the car, with what we learned this year, so I can’t wait” Alonso said.

“We had difficulties this year, more than last year. The team responded well to this adversity and these challenges. This weekend was a good example, we were not happy with the car but we didn’t accept that and we found performance because we never gave up, and that’s what we have to do.”

Lance Stroll barely spoke to the media, only explaining that he was looking forward to having some time off before focusing on next year. The official communication from Aston Martin made him say more about his last race.

“I had a good start and gained four positions on the first lap, but the car wasn’t strong enough to fight more today. After the pit stops we just didn’t have the pace necessary to get back into traffic and get into the points.”

“But we regained some positions by overtaking [Jack] Doohan et al [Yuki] Tsunoda. It’s not the season we were hoping for, but we will do everything to come back stronger next season. Thank you to the team for their hard work during this difficult year.”
