Ferrari has confirmed that the second young driver taking part in a free practice session will be Arthur Leclerc this weekend in Abu Dhabi. The Monegasque will drive for the Scuderia in EL1 alongside his brother Charles.
Ferrari welcomes having brothers racing together in the same team at the same time. This is the first time since Teo and Corrado Fabi in 1984 that two brothers have ridden in the same team, but the Italians had not crossed paths on the track at Brabham. And other brothers rode together, but not on the same team.
Frédéric Vasseur, the director of the Scuderia, is delighted to arrive as a candidate for the constructors’ title during the last round of the season, but the Frenchman remains not very optimistic about winning the crown from McLaren F1.
“For the first time in the hybrid era, we are in contention for the championship title in the final round. In itself, that is a great achievement, but this weekend we will try to take that final important step “ Vasseur said.
“Let’s be honest, it’s a mathematical possibility, but in reality it will be very difficult to achieve, because even if we finish first and second, McLaren, with its 21 point lead going into this race, can afford to finish third and fourth, or even worse, and keep the advantage.”
“But Ferrari has always loved a challenge! If we can once again have a perfect weekend from start to finish, we will at least have a chance and we will be able to leave Abu Dhabi feeling like we gave it our best -themselves.”
“Our preparation for this event has been thorough, we know that qualifying will play a very important role, even if our car tends to perform better in the race. Charles, Carlos and the whole team are ready to fight tooth and nail to win the title.”
