On Sunday, the Garnets went through all the moods. Strength, desire, mastery, frustration, joy. But always with unwavering quality in mind. That of collective work…
Servette, a united team
For several seasons, many players have passed through the first team. Often recruited to run the house and guide the younger ones, they all displayed leadership qualities. Frick, Routis, Clichy, Rouiller, Stevanovic, Cognat, Severin, Imeri, Mbabu, Ondoua, Kutesa, Crivelli… The list could of course be even longer.
Some have gone to other lands, but most are still here. Like Yoan Severin who had to really work hard to get minutes of play and then become an indisputable starter. Quite the opposite of a Cognat or a Stevanovic who will have received the keys to the Servettian game upon their arrival.
A certain idea of the game
It was with Alain Geiger that the team really began to master its subject. It was in the Challenge League and the squad was built for promotion to the next level. A Servette stable in his game and in his ideas, the desire to master all the elements leading to victory and an almost logical promotion. But we know well that theories do not lead to any certainty of results… Except that at Servette, if the individual is important, it is above all the collective which is put forward and a certain idea of stability.
Weiler, the trigger
René Weiler’s time has come on the bench. A demanding coach who didn’t make any frills. Only those who join the project will play, without any restrictions. Some players will pay the price. Question of profiles, individual qualities or mentality…
A constructed workforce is built for collective performance, self-sacrifice, the desire to work for your teammate. A team spirit combining confidence and work, with this exceptional victory in the Swiss Cup against Lugano as the pinnacle of the season. A dramaturgy that will perhaps never be equaled, as what we experienced on June 2 was timeless, almost mystical.
Meet the Third Kind
This season, René Weiler has gained height and it is Thomas Häberli who has been called upon to lead the SFC. The Bernese worked in continuity with his two predecessors who were each able to count on a philosophy of play and work to achieve success.
Thomas Häberli follows his path, the path he has traced for himself to lead Servette to success. What is really reassuring for us supporters is that the club’s work values are now well anchored in everyone’s minds. Solidarity, respect, the desire to fight on every ball to build future successes stone by stone. Last Sunday’s victory is one of them. There will still be many others, but the attitude displayed in the face of adversity by the team, the staff and the public was admirable.
There are successes that build a season, on which we can continue to build to progress again and again. Always with only one idea in mind: self-sacrifice.
