a “new” stadium is born!

Algeria 1 year before the CAN, Morocco is preparing its Meknes stadium to host the Mamelodi Sundowns in the Champions League.

AS FAR prepare to host Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, December 7 for the second day of the CAF Champions League group stage. The match, which will take place at 8:00 p.m., will be held at the Stade d’Honneur in Meknes, an arena recently redeveloped to meet international requirements.

Although the Moroccan club had initially planned to play in El Jadida, it has been confirmed that the match will ultimately take place in Meknes. To ensure that the infrastructure is ready to host this major event, a CAF technical inspection delegation is expected this Thursday at the Stade d’Honneur. The objective of this visit is to assess the state of the premises and draw up a report which will be transmitted to the CAF Competitions Commission.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has accelerated the stadium’s redevelopment work in recent months, upgrading its infrastructure and improving its functional and aesthetic appearance. This work aims to ensure that the venue meets the international standards necessary for the competition.

In addition, a notable element was the installation of an electronic scoreboard in the Meknes Stadium, which was dismantled after the last Morocco-Lesotho match at the Oujda Stadium. This facility complements infrastructure modernization efforts and ensures a better experience for spectators and competing teams.

With these improvements, AS FAR hopes to provide an optimal setting for its matches, while showing Mamelodi Sundowns and their supporters Morocco’s commitment to CAF international standards.
