Thursday, November 28, the French Tennis Federation announced in a press release the appointment of the last French male winner of Roland-Garos (1983) to the position of national coordinator of para tennis, from 1is January 2025. This includes the flagship discipline, wheelchair tennis, as well as variations, such as “deaf and hard of hearing tennis and blind tennis”. Yannick Noah will be responsible for the high level and distribution in the territory.

Former captain of the French Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams (four victories in 1991, 1996, 1997 and 2017), the sixty-year-old expressed the wish to occupy this position, as highlighted by the president of the FFT , Gilles Moretton, campaigning for his re-election: “After his magnificent experience at the Paris Paralympic Games, he expressed the wish to continue to invest in para tennis and we were obviously very sensitive to this. »

“I didn’t want this beautiful story to end there”

In Paris, the Blues, led by Noah, did not win a medal; the doubles pair made up of Frédéric Cattanéo and Stéphane Houdet lost in the match for third place. “It’s a disappointment. We had a dream. We experienced a powerful adventure, but we didn’t make it to the end”reacted the emblematic captain.

In his new position, Noah will have the opportunity to deepen his commitment: “I had an incredible human experience alongside the players of the French wheelchair tennis team during the Paris Paralympic Games and I didn’t want this beautiful story to end there. »
