At the time, what did professional women’s handball look like?
We were at the beginning. When we won world silver in 1999, when we qualified for the Olympics (6th in 2000) and when we asked for bonuses, the Federation did not expect it. She was a little taken aback. We were in the “we deserve it” mode, it’s normal to demand the same thing as the boys. We had spokespersons, “unionists”, Véro (Pecqueux-Rolland)Sandrine (Marriot)… Gradually, we saw the evolution of accommodation conditions, transport and equipment. Before it wasn’t gender specific, we had shorts and swimsuits that were too big, we collected the guys’ clothes. Today, there is clearly recognition of women’s handball, even if there are still battles to be fought.
