Only a few months after his arrival, former Springbok Flip van der Merwe announced this Thursday morning that he was leaving Olympic Biarritz due to disagreements.
Flip van der Merwe is no longer a member of the Biarritz Olympic board. The former Springbok (39 years old (39 years old, 37 caps) announced in a message this Thursday morning that he was leaving Olympic Biarritz after strategic disagreements. “When there are too many cooks, it spoils the recipehe says in his press release. And following some strategic decisions made recently, I am no longer aligned with the values and direction of this club. I am therefore withdrawing from my financial and managerial responsibilities, convinced that it is in the interest of the club.”
He arrived last April and took on the role of chairman of the board after his election. In July, he was replaced in this position by Arnaud Dubois. “I leave the club in a better position than it was when I found it, and I am proud of that”he concludes.
Response from Shaun Hegarty, Chairman of the Supervisory Board:
“During its last Supervisory Board meeting, Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque took note of the resignation of Flip Van Der Merwe as a member of the management board. On behalf of the Club and personally, I would like to thank Flip for his investment during the transition and the initial work to improve the living conditions of the players. New projects call Flip today and we all wish him good luck in his future endeavors. »
