HERZOGENAURACH (dpa-AFX) – Demand for the German national football team’s jerseys is far exceeding the expectations of equipment supplier Adidas. “We will sell more than three times as many jerseys as we had originally calculated,” Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen told the German Press Agency. However, he did not give any concrete figures.

The pink jersey is out of stock in many places

The continued popularity of the jerseys is also being felt in stores. A look at the equipment supplier’s online shop on Tuesday shows that there are plenty of them: The national team’s pink away jerseys are currently out of stock. Only residual-size jerseys are currently available online, Brüggen said. Most of the DFB jerseys are still available in the sports equipment supplier’s stores and at its sales partners.

“In order to continue to meet the high demand, we are in daily contact with our partners for additional quantities of jerseys and we will continue to produce jerseys beyond the end of the tournament,” Brüggen assured.

For the sale of the jerseys, the focus is on the specialist trade, which sells more than two thirds of them, said Brüggen. “Thanks to stocks built up in advance, we were able to ensure that the specialist trade would receive significantly more goods than were originally ordered,” said the spokesman.

Kroos and “Wusiala” the most popular

The variant with the number 8 of Champions League winner Toni Kroos is particularly in demand, said Brüggen. But the names and numbers of the DFB duo “Wusiala”, i.e. Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, are also very popular, he added.

Recently, Adidas announced that the national team’s pink away jersey has become a historic bestseller. The pink away jersey is the best-selling away jersey in the history of all German national football team jerseys.

The pink and purple jersey is not only popular among German fans. The eldest son of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was also photographed in the coveted DFB away jersey on his birthday.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer also appreciates the DFB’s pink jersey. “I also think that the fact that the German jerseys are pink for this tournament is not only a success from a fashion perspective: Germany is colourful – that is also what sport and such a tournament can convey,” he said in an interview with the media group Münchner Merkur/tz (Wednesday)./pul/DP/mis
