Corruption scandal rocks Algerian Federation

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is facing a major corruption case. Monday 1is In July, a judicial investigation was launched against 14 defendants involved in acts of corruption.

Among the accused are former senior officials of the FAF, including several former presidents and general secretaries, as indicated in a press release from the Algerian public prosecutor’s office at the national economic and financial penal unit.

The press release states: “Following information indicating suspicions of corruption within the FAF, involving several senior executives in the conclusion of contracts in violation of internal procedures in order to unduly favor third parties, thus leading to the squandering of public funds of the FAF and the Treasury, a preliminary investigation was opened by the brigade for the fight against economic and financial crimes under the Algiers Wilaya Security.”

Among the 14 accused are former presidents Charaf-Eddine Amara, Kheïreddine Zetchi and Djahid Zefizef, as well as former general secretaries and the former general manager.

As a reminder, the Algerian Football Federation is going through an unprecedented financial crisis, with a colossal debt of 700 billion centimes in dinars, equivalent to 48 million euros.

This situation mainly stems from the organization of the CHAN and the CAN U17, as well as poor management under the various mandates of the presidents who have served at the FAF. Each accuses his predecessor of having contributed to the current crisis.

The situation is getting worse with an open confrontation between the Walid Sadi clan, supported by the regime, and former presidents such as Charaf-Eddine Amara, Kheïreddine Zetchi and Djahid Zefizef, who were prevented from participating in the last general assembly of the body.
