NHL: Zachary L’Heureux scores, but receives a dangerous hit from Meier

Zachary L’Heureux is known for disturbing his opponent and this time, his rival lost his cool and it was the Quebecer who suffered.

Timo Meier delivered a double-check to the Quebecer’s face in the third period of the game between the New Jersey Devils and the Nashville Predators and L’Heureux left the game afterwards.

The Quebecer found the back of the net for the second time in his career in this clash which ended in a 5-2 victory for the Devils.

Before elaborating on Meier’s dangerous gesture, we must highlight the hat trick of Nico Hischier, who scored all his goals in the middle period. He ended a 10-game drought without finding the back of the net.

The game started well for the Preds as Filip Forsberg beat Jacob Markstrom on his team’s first throw of the game. The Devils, however, responded with four consecutive goals.

Erik Haula tied the game when he redirected a pass from Johnathan Kovacevic. The defenseman finished his evening with two assists.

Hischier then made a spectacle of himself. He gave the Devils the lead in the fourth minute of the second period. He added to his team’s lead on the power play.

Hischier completed his hat trick when he appeared alone in front of Juuse Saros and got the better of the goalkeeper. Saros was removed from the game after allowing four goals on 30 shots.

L’Heureux subsequently reduced the gap to two goals in the third period. He got the better of Markstrom with a feint and slipped the puck between the goalie’s pads.

Five minutes later, following a stoppage in play near his net, L’Heureux pushed Meier back against the ramp. The Devils player attacked him and in an exchange of blows, Meier hit L’Heureux hard in the face with his stick. The Quebecer left the game and Meier received a major penalty.
