As announced, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal officially joined Stade Rennais in Ligue 1 on Tuesday, July 2, from the Mohammed VI Football Academy.

Stade Rennais announced this Tuesday, July 2, via its social networks the signing of the captain of the Atlas Lions U17, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, from the Mohammed VI Football Academy for the next four seasons, until 2028.

“Courted by many European clubs, Abdelhamid gave his preference to Stade Rennais FC and its expertise in developing young talents,” wrote the Red and Blacks’ press release.

The Stade Rennais press release continued: “The Moroccan hopeful has no shortage of talent. Fast, powerful, a very good passer, tough on the man, decisive on set pieces, his qualities are numerous.”

Furthermore, the young Moroccan defender joins the line of players trained at the Mohammed VI Academy who have joined Europe, such as Youssef En-Nesyri, Azzedine Ounahi and Nayef Aguerd.

Ait Boudlal spoke to his new club: “I jumped at the chance to sign for a club of this caliber, in Ligue 1, known for playing young players. My goal is obviously to eventually progress with the professional team.”

A finalist at the 2023 CAN in Algeria, Abdelhamid performed well with the Atlas Lions at the last U17 World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals. He was also ranked among the 60 greatest hopes in world football (The Guardian, 2023).
