The Canadian | Demidov and Koivu absent from development camp

(Montreal) The Montreal Canadiens have invited 30 players to their development camp, which will take place from July 2 to 5 at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard, but forwards Ivan Demidov and Aatos Koivu will not participate.

Demidov and Koivu were selected in the 5th round respectivelye et 70e ranks of the last draft.

After his selection on Friday, Demidov said he was unsure if he would be able to participate since he did not have a visa to travel to Canada. Koivu said on Saturday that he preferred to focus on his training in Finland in the hopes of securing a spot with TPS Turku in SM-Liiga.

The other player selected by the Canadiens in the first round, Michael Hage, will be present at the camp. Hage was drafted 21e rank, Friday in Las Vegas.

Other players scheduled to participate in camp include forwards Owen Beck, Logan Sawyer and Florian Xhekaj and goaltender Jacob Fowler.

Half of the players who will participate in the camp received invitations and were not drafted, including seven who are natives of Quebec.

After a day of off-ice work, the players will practice on the CN Sports Complex ice rinks Wednesday and Thursday, then play an intrasquad game on Friday.
