MotoGP – “Mission accomplished” for Johann Zarco in Assen

Johann Zarco got the most out of his Honda at Assen. While it was impossible for the Frenchman to make it into the top-9 in the Sprint, he admitted on Friday afternoon that a top-15 in the race would be synonymous with a successful weekend.

This Sunday, the racing facts allowed the Tricolore to take thirteenth place, and to reach the objective he had set for himself. The result of the event was therefore enough to put a smile on the face of the number 5 at the finish.

” Mission accomplished, Zarco rejoices in front of the media in Assen. A way to feel useful during the weekend and to move forward in this championship. Almost better management than yesterday, not better speed but better management. It’s impossible to follow this group in front, it’s another level. The bikes are not the same, so I tried to stay as focused as possible, to save the tire because yesterday we had overheated this medium rear tire too much.

While trying to manage, Augusto Fernandez caught up with me, he continues. I made a small mistake and in the end it was beneficial for the rest of my race. It allowed me to see how he was riding, and to wait behind him. I tried to save and manage to see if other drivers were coming back or not. Finally, a pleasure to have won my duel. When there is an opponent, it is nice to be able to overtake him at the entrance to the last chicane in the Stadium. It makes a bit of a show for those who have the French flags. With a few points, it is a way of feeling useful.

Big Honda developments for the start of the school year?

However, there is no question of resting on these achievements which are far from the long-term objectives. Zarco also places some expectations concerning Honda’s action plan for the start of the school year.

“I hope for an evolution in September. It will have to be significant because we cannot compete with the others. We are too far away and we cannot do anything for the moment. The equipment must be better.” he adds again.

Before focusing on his Endurance challenge, which motivates him enormously, the Frenchman will have to face the German Grand Prix (July 7). A meeting during which he hopes to confirm before going on vacation.
