Kevin De Bruyne has revealed what would have to happen for him to cut ties with Manchester City in 2024 and leave for Saudi Arabia.

The 33-year-old midfielder has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. A new deal has not yet been offered to the six-time Premier League winner, who has been at Manchester City since 2015, but talks are expected to take place at some point.

De Bruyne, who is currently playing in the Euros with Belgium, told HLN what the immediate future holds for him amid talk of interest from the Middle East.

De Bruyne does not want to leave

“I’ve read a lot of headlines, but I haven’t spoken to anyone. I hope I can last a few more years. Everyone knows I’m signed to City for another year. And I haven’t spoken to anyone yet. I suppose there will be talks with City in the next few months. If not, I’ll have to look for something else. But it’s hard to say what will happen. My summer will be very quiet. I’ll enjoy my holidays. And then I’ll come back to City.”

De Bruyne would land a lucrative deal if he followed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to the Saudi Pro League, but the Belgian said he is largely safe from want: “Listen, I have more than enough money. I know that very well. If, later, someone offers me an exorbitant sum, it is not for me. It is for my whole family, my friends, my children, my great-grandchildren, my children’s neighbors.”
