Marc Guiu will be a Blues player next season. Chelsea has just made official this Monday afternoon the arrival of its new striker from FC Barcelona. The London club has paid the release clause of 6 million euros. The young 18-year-old striker has signed a 5-year contract, with an additional year as an option. The player trained at La Masia will join his new teammates currently on a summer tour.

A dream come true

In Chelsea’s statement, Marc Guiu spoke about his transfer. “It’s a huge joy to sign for Chelsea and I had trouble sleeping before the trip here because I was so excited,” said the new Blues player. “Ever since I was little, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea and I will work my hardest to succeed for the club.”

What role under Enzo Maresca?

Last season, Marc Guiu got a taste of the professional world. A first match in preseason against Vissel Kobe. But also his first minutes in La Liga against Athletic Club Bilbao. In total, the striker played seven matches for two goals, including one in the Champions League against Royal Antwerp.

His new club, Chelsea, finished 6th in the Premier League, with a better end to the season. And it is in this sense that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wants to improve his squad, and bring competition to Nicolas Jackson, the incumbent at number 9. Last season, the Senegalese striker participated in 35 matches for 14 goals and 8 assists.
