Jannik Sinner, who is playing his first Grand Slam tournament as world number one, lost a set to German Yannick Hanfmann (110th) on Monday in his first match at Wimbledon, before winning 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

«He played very well, served very well and I missed a few shots. I have to raise my level for the next round. I have a day off to find my rhythm,” analyzed the Italian. In the next round, he will face his compatriot Matteo Berrettini (59th), finalist of the tournament in 2021.

While he was in control of the match, Sinner let the third set slip away from him, at the end of which the roof of Court No. 1 was closed. During the interruption, while one might have thought that the German would complain about being cut off in his momentum, it was Sinner who pointed out to the umpire that he was obliged to wait instead of continuing with his serve.

Despite everything, last year’s semi-finalist quickly took back control and won without trembling, despite a few uncontrolled slips which forced him to make a few risky extensions but which did not seem to cause him any pain. “That’s how it is on the grass, you can’t control everything”he simply commented.
