The Carolina Hurricanes announced that they have offered an eight-year contract extension to their defenseman Jaccob Salvin.

The 30-year-old guard will enter the final season of a seven-year contract that pays him $5.3 million annually. Slavin inherits a salary increase which will allow him to earn $6.43 million per campaign from 2025-2026. The total value of the contract would be $51 million.

It could have achieved full autonomy in 2025.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, Slavin quickly became a key piece of the Hurricanes’ defensive success.

He played his first nine seasons in a Hurricanes uniform since arriving in the NHL in 2015-2016.

Last season, Slavin had six goals and 37 points in 81 games. In his 665 NHL games, he scored 49 goals and added 223 assists for a total of 272 points.

The Hurricanes blue line took a big hit Monday, as Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei left for New Jersey and Nashville respectively.

Carrier finds work in Raleigh

Quebecer William Carrier has agreed with the Carolina Hurricanes on the terms of a six-year, $12 million contract.

Carrier spent the majority of his career with the Vegas Golden Knights and lifted the Stanley Cup in 2023. He totaled 107 points in 413 NHL games.

The 29-year-old forward’s 2023-24 season was cut short at 39 games due to an upper-body injury.

Martinook would remain with the Canes

The Hurricanes have signed veteran Jordan Martinook to a three-year, $9.15 million contract.

The 31-year-old winger would receive an average salary of 3.05 million annually.

Martinook has worn a Carolina uniform for the past six seasons. He is a key player at the bottom of the Canes lineup, scoring 14 goals and 32 points last season in 82 games.

He was drafted 58th overall in 2012 by the Arizona Coyotes, where he spent four seasons before joining the Hurricanes.

Jost joins the Canes

The Hurricanes also signed Darren Dreger to a one-year, $775,000 contract.

Jost split his time between the NHL and AHL last season. In 43 games with the Buffalo Sabres, he had three goals and three assists in 43 games.

A first-round pick, 10th overall in 2016 by the Colorado Avalanche, Jost never lived up to expectations in the NHL.

The 26-year-old has 57 goals and 140 points in 456 NHL games.
