A spectacular accident was caused by three young people aged 13, 15 and 16 in Deurne, behind the wheel of a car. They are seriously injured.

The events took place on Sunday. At the start of the afternoon, three young people burst into a private parking lot near Deurne, a commune in the province of Antwerp. They are obviously looking for a vehicle and end up getting into one of them. On the parking lot’s surveillance cameras, we can see these young people driving at very high speed before crashing violently into a pole.

The (surveillance) camera footage shows their mode of action. They made a hole in the fence by cutting and pulling it. This allowed them to access the car park without being seen by the security system.“, wonders Koen Van Den Bergh, COO of the Beerens group, owner of the car park and the vehicle, questioned by our colleagues at VTM.

He still doesn’t understand how the young people were able to take the car: “The keys to the vehicle are still with us in the office. They have been registered in our system and put in the safe.“, assures Koen Van Den Bergh. He suspects that the young people had a second key.

Following the accident, the three young occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured. One of them was even between life and death until recently.

This afternoon, investigators were still on scene to determine the exact reasons for the incident.
