After Amine El Ouazzani in Braga, a second U23 Lion Cub and former Ligue 2 resident has just signed to join Portugal, as Toulouse FC announced this Monday.

Yanis Begraoui has served his time in Ligue 2, a championship in which he started with AJ Auxerre in 2017. Unable to win in Burgundy, he heads to Toulouse in the summer of 2021, experiencing the joys of a title of French Ligue 2 champion and a rise in the elite, of which he ultimately enjoyed very little.

With three short games in his first half-season in
Ligue
1
, it is logical that he is loaned to the lower level for the second part of the championship. He will finally explode in Pau (9 goals in 18 matches). Returning to Téfécé last summer after a good U23 CAN, he played more (14 games) but did not convert the shot, and was sent on loan again to the Pallois at mid-season of this 2023-2024 financial year. The record is, however, much less impressive (19 matches, 2 goals) than during his first visit to the prefecture of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department.

Deprived of the Olympics?

It is therefore the Portuguese club Estoril, 13th in the Portuguese D1 2023-2024, who decided to place their trust in him by signing him for four seasons. Aged 22, Yanis Begraoui is still a young player despite his already substantial background in the professional world and his development potential, which seduced the Portuguese team, remains significant.

Capped 17 times (4 goals) with the Lionceaux U23 of which he is a regular – he notably won the CAN U23 2023 (3 goals, including one in the final) – his participation in the
Paris 2024 Olympic Games
could however be questioned. Indeed, it is not certain that his new club has agreed to release him for this deadline. Tarik Sektioui, who will announce his list at the latest this Wednesday, July 3, could therefore be forced to do without his services. Imminent response…
