two teammates escape before getting off their bike and waiting for the peloton (video)

Jonas Abrahamsen and Johannes Kulset, teammates in the Uno-X team, attacked this Monday at the start of the 3rd stage of the Tour de France before getting off their bikes and waiting for the peloton.

An unusual scene which will require explanations. Less than ten kilometers after the start of the 3rd stage of the Tour de France, this Monday, between Plaisance and Turin (Italy), Jonas Abrahamsen, great leader of this 111th edition, launched an attack. But the Norwegian from the Uno-X team, wearing the green jersey and the polka dot jersey, was not alone. He escaped with his teammate Johannes Kulset (20 years old), the youngest runner in this 2024 Grande Boucle.

And the two companions put on a show for a few kilometers before finally stopping on the side of the road, getting off their bikes to wait for the rest of the peloton, while they had a lead of almost one minute and 30 seconds. An attitude that did not necessarily please everyone. “To do that, it was better to stay in the peloton. It’s a bit of a big joke. It’s better to stay in the peloton than to act like a clown,” regretted Laurent Jalabert in the commentary on France Télévisions.

“The Tour is worth respecting. (…) I don’t like it either,” said Thomas Voeckler. This episode brought a little excitement to a relatively calm start to the stage, while this 3rd stage is promised to a sprinter at the end of the 231 kilometers to Turin. And more than the identity of the winner, one of the questions of this 3rd day is whether Tadej Pogacar will keep the leader’s yellow jersey.
