Tour de France. Why Tadej Pogacar doesn’t want the yellow jersey

Tadej Pogacar didn’t wait long to show his offensive on the roads of the Tour de France. He tested his rivals on the San Luca climb during the second stage. Fourth in the first stage, the leader of the UAE team took the lead in the general classification, in the game of accumulation of places, at the expense of Romain Bardet, by six short seconds. Good news for the Slovenian? It’s not so sure.

“I tried to leave a little gap”

The overall leader’s jersey brings responsibilities, stress and fatigue. Tadej Pogacar would have liked to take the yellow jersey a little later. During the finale in Bologna, the double winner of the Tour tried to lose a few places to finish behind Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian is in the same second as the Slovenian.

I tried to leave a small gap at the finish so as not to take the yellow jersey slipped Tadej Pogacar to Remco Evenepoel, on his home trainer. Now, four riders are in the same time: Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma I Lease a Bike) and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost).

It is therefore not excluded to see Tadej Pogacar trailing at the back of the peloton during a potential massive sprint, this Monday, July 1, during the third stage to try to abandon his leader’s tunic. Remco Evenepoel must finish two places ahead of Pogacar to take yellow from him.
