Present for the first time this season at a press conference since taking office at RC Lens, Will Still took the opportunity to address the level of play for Euro 2024 which began on June 14.

“I’ve watched a lot of Euro matches, but we’re a bit bored. The Euros aren’t great.” Will Still didn’t mince his words when giving his opinion on the level of play displayed since the start of Euro 2024 in Germany. The Belgian-British coach, who was giving his first press conference this Friday with Lens, chained together little digs and jokes.

The new coach of the Blood and Gold also let loose on the match that awaits Belgium against France on Monday July 1 (6 p.m.) in the round of 16 of Euro 2024: “Out of pride, I want to say that I hope Belgium will win, but it’s really to piss you off. Because I think that at the start of the competition the Belgians weren’t crazy, just like the Euro. I like to tease people, so if Belgium wins, that gives me an extra card to tease in the locker room.”

A small tackle for England

But the Euro and Belgium were not the only targets of Will Still who was very teasing this Friday. The RC Lens coach also strongly criticized England’s level of play, whose performances he also closely follows. “I know that people say that I am Belgian, but I am much more the English team, which is catastrophic, we are not going to lie,” declared Will Still, always with the humor that characterizes him.

Will Still also spoke about the Lens season and what awaits the Sang et Or before the season resumes with a friendly match scheduled for Saturday July 6 at the Lens training center against Kortrijk. “The squad has been built like that for several years (with pistons), I would be stupid to want to change everything. There will be a way of pressing and animating that will be different, but it will remain faithful to the identity of the club”, assured the Lensois coach.

Long close to joining an English bench for next season, Will Still has finally extended his adventure in France after having coached Stade de Reims for almost two years. “It’s the most English of French clubs, there is a logic in this choice. Coming to RC Lens was an obvious choice,” declared Will Still who seems very happy to have joined the north of France.
